Vic; Standing ovation for Labor s new MP

Labor's newest MP, BOB STENSHOLT, has taken his seat in Victoria's parliament after
his stunning election victory in JEFF KENNETT's former seat.

Mr STENSHOLT was sworn in when parliament resumed and was welcomed with a standing
ovation from his Labor colleagues.

Labor achieved a 10.6 per cent swing at the weekend to secure the seat for the first
time in 45 years.

Premier STEVE BRACKS told parliament his government's policies, including a pledge
for more open and accountable government, had been overwhelmingly endorsed by the voters
in Burwood.
