County Appeals Woman's Right to Refuse C-Section

The Cook County state's attorney's office will try again today toforce a woman to have a Caesarean section, which it argues is neededto save the life of her unborn child.

The 22-year-old woman and her husband have rejected a doctor'swarning that a vaginal delivery would end in the fetus, which is morethan 8 months old, either dying or winding up profoundly mentallyretarded.

Juvenile Court Judge Gary Brownfield ruled for the unidentifiedChicago couple Saturday. He said he could find no precedent forcompelling a woman to undergo surgery to save her fetus.
