NSW: Prisoner uses knife to hijack prison van
A prisoner has used a knife to hijack a vehicle and escape custody in western Sydney.
Police say The inmate from Silverwater Jail, ELIE EL-YOUSEF, was being transportedin a prison van to Westmead Hospital around 11.30am when the hijack occurred.
He forced a prison officer from the vehicle at knifepoint and drove off.
The white Toyota Tarago van, registration XKV 524, was last seen being drive alongHawkesbury Road at Westmead.
EL-YOUSEF, aged in his mid-thirties, was serving a seven-year sentence for robbery.
He was last seen wearing prison greens.
Members of the public are urged not to approach the man or vehicle if sighted, butto call triple-O or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
